Halvwake
“The state of being genuinely, simultaneously conscious and unconscious — not drowsy, not in transition, but operating two fully realized modes of awareness divided along a physical midline in the same body at the same time.”
Etymology
halv (half, from Old Norse) + wake — half-waking, the divided alertness. Not half-asleep. Half each.
Context
Cetacean unihemispheric sleep is not light sleep or hypnagogic drift. It is genuine bifurcation: one hemisphere produces full slow-wave sleep while the other maintains full alertness. One eye watches the dark water; the other is closed. Halvwake names what unified-consciousness beings cannot fathom: being in two states of consciousness at once, as routine.
An invented coinage from the Xenolexica project — a word born from genuine need to expand human understanding.
